July COM Round Up - Fossilised pebbles

This past weekend saw the reveal and blog-hop of our July Component of the Month design challenge which featured some of my stoneware fossilised pebble pendants. I was delighted with the designs all the participants came up with so today I'm doing a round up of all the finished pieces. To find out more about each design just click on an image and it will take you through to that person personal blog. Enjoy!

Fossilised Pebbles - July COM Design Challenge and Giveaway.

So it's my turn to host AJE's July component of the month design challenge and since we're heading into holiday season I've decided to launch it early to give everyone plenty of time.

I live in the south of England very close to the World Heritage Site Jurassic coast - famous for the incredible fossils that can be found there...

http://www.dorsets.co.uk/photos/fossil-forest-jurassic-coast-103.htm
http://jurassiccoast.org/fossilfinder/

I decided to use this as the inspiration for my components and used some of my own deathbed ammonites to create these fossilised pebble pendants. They're made from stoneware clay and I've stained the 'fossil' section with various oxides to give an aged earthy look. The rest of the 'pendant has been glazed to give the smooth appearance of a weathered pebble. The AJE team will be creating jewellery pieces with these components and I will also be giving away a pendant to two of our readers who can then join us in the challenge.

If you'd like the chance to play along with us here's the deal...

  • I will give away two pendants of my choice to two winners selected randomly from those who leave a comment on this post. Please note: your comment must include your email and blog addresses so we can contact you should you win.
  • Please only leave a comment if you can can commit to creating a finished piece and blogging about it on the reveal date.
  • The names of the two winners will be announce on Saturday18th June 2016.
  • the giveaway is open to participants from all countries but please be aware, components will be mailed from the UK and international postage can take up to 3 weeks.
  • The blog reveal will take place on Saturday 30th July.
Good luck - I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone is inspired!

May Component of the Month Giveaway and Challenge - Baby Cabochons!

It's my turn to do the Component of the Month, and I have selected Baby Cabochons!  Since everyone here at AJE is mad for seed beads, I thought these would be a good challenge!

Of course, you don't have to use seed beads - you can bezel set these as well.  I'm sure you can also come up with even more uses for them!  These cabochons measure between 9 and 12mm.  They vary in height as well.  Do you want to play?  Here are the rules:
  • I will give away 2 sets of 3 baby cabochons (you will receive a random set) to 2 winners selected randomly from those who leave a comment below this post. Your comment MUST include your EMAIL AND BLOG address so we can contact you should you win.
  • Please — only leave a comment if you can commit to creating a finished piece and blogging about it on the reveal date.
  • The names of the 2 winners will be announced on Monday, May1, 2016.
  • This giveaway is open to US and international countries, but please be aware that these will be posted from the US and international addresses will have longer postage times… sometimes up to 3 weeks.
  • The blog reveal will take place on Tuesday May 31, 2016.
I will also have random sets of these baby cabs available in my SueBeads Etsy store for purchase if you don't get chosen but want to play along as well.

I look forward to the reveal!

November Component of The Month

There is no greater inspiration than nature, and this month’s component is inspired by lichens. I love to walk in the local woods, finding these little treasures on the bark of the trees. They make me think of tiny little worlds.

Lichen

The components are made from earthenware clay and have been coloured with a combination of my own recipe glazes. I love how they came out, matt with a crusty finish.

There is a choice of a cabochon or a pendant.

It's my turn to provide the May Component of the Month, and after taking a poll of the AJE team members, I decided to offer a pair of beaded beads!

Component of the Month REVEAL! (July 2014 Edition)

This is the only the second time I've hosted the monthly component challenge, and - if I'm being really honest - I've been very, very nervous both times. I am not really a component maker per se; I make most of my own components, but I don't make them to sell individually, so the things I make are for my own use. The other ladies here at Art Jewelry Elements make such beautiful components are are so PROLIFIC about it (seriously) that I felt very... well, I guess "intimidated" isn't too strong a word. So I screwed up my courage and prepared a bunch of glass cabochons for folks to play with.

Today's the day everyone posts what they made... and I'm more than a little excited to see their creations! (With so many members of the AJE team getting ready for BeadFest, I was especially grateful that several of them took time to do the component challenge this month.) Join me in checking them out - and be sure to leave a comment letting them know what you thought! (And psssstt: my post includes a kind of big announcement - for me, anyway! - that's directly related to this month's challenge!)

March Component of the Month Reveal

Today is the big reveal for my component and I'm bursting to see what everyone's made!

These luna moths have been handmade and carved from porcelain clay. After the glaze firing, they were coloured with precious metal lustres in gold, copper, platinum and lilac.

It was as much of a challenge for me as the rest of the team, as I hardly ever use my own components in my designs, but these moths are one of my favourite things to create so I had fun working out what to do with one!

As well as sending moths to members of the AJE team, there were two guest designers chosen to join us in the challenge.

I hope you'll come along and see what we've all created!
