Words....

2013 is just a few short days away.  Another year almost gone. Many of us are reflecting on the good and bad of 2012, but are also looking forward and forming a plan to make our 2013 the best year ever.  A few years ago, bloggers all over the art jewelry community started choosing a "word of the year"...one, all-encompassing word, instead of all the resolutions that tend to get forgotten after a month or two.

I thought it would be fun to ask my fellow AJE contributors about their word choices for 2013. Several of us had already thought about it...

Kristi likes balance and prioritize..."be able to figure out the important things and let the rest go!"

Jen's word is freedom...from fear, guilt, to create when and what she wants...that's a great choice!

Lesley chose balance...another great word!  She wants to ensure everything gets the attention it deserves and still have flexibility for the unforeseen.

Karen mentioned exploration and fearless...I think those go hand in hand!

Joanne wants to remember to relax!  She wants to "make time to enjoy the blessings in life and have fun creating..."

Linda expressed her desire for openness..."open to explore new skills and experiences".

Francesca wants to be intentional...she wants to develop positive discipline by setting measurable goals.

As for me, I changed my word every time I read someone else's answer! Last year, my word was de-clutter...my home, studio, life, thoughts...I can't say I was that successful. I believe it was my lack of focus.  Eureka...focus!  I have so many incomplete projects laying on my work table.  2013 is going to be the year for me to focus on what I have to do and maintain that focus until the task is complete, be it new jewelry projects or folding laundry!

So, how about you?  Have you chosen a word for 2013? Let us know!  No matter what your word, we here at Art Jewelry Elements wish you the very best 2013 you can possibly have!

  1. I never make resolutions at new year - it just sets me up to fail if I do but I like the concept of a focus word. It will be interesting to see how we get on with them - in fact I think I might extend the idea and pick a word to summarize how each month went at the end of it...might be quite illuminating this time next year.

  4. My word for this year is 'Celebration!' To Celebrate with Gratitude every thing in every day in every way manifested, as all are gifts in the expression of the Creator and in us.

  8. Mine was "DEVELOP" this year... I feel I partially did this...it's a pretty ongoing word in my book. I am still thinking on this... I have so many choices but none of them are just right.... Thanks for sharing yours.. I love to hear what others choose.

  9. I rarely make resolutions for the new year. I just try to do the things that need to be done, treat others how I want to be treated, etc. Also, I never intentionally choose a word, but many times I have one in the back of my mind. And for the new year it will be 'Brave'. I'm very timid at trying new things for fear of failure, and I end up disapointed in myself. Hopefully this year will be different.

    Happy New Year!!!

  10. My word is ORGANIZE. In order for me to move forward with my creative life/business/adventure, I need to organize various aspects of it. I really need to get my business plan in order; organize all of the paperwork related to it. I also need to organize all of the ideas I have so that I can start setting them into motion. My studio REALLY needs organization! Yep, my word definitely is Organize!

  11. I like everyone's word! Mine for last year was...intentional. I wanted to make things important, not just do them routinely. I succeeded in some areas, and not in others. But I was very happy I chose a word, rather than a goal. I am thinking on my word for 2013....

  12. I've done the word thing in years past. Two years ago I chose AWAKE and even hung the word prominently in my craft room. It wasn't long before the word lost its meaning and I stopped noticing the sign. It's still there in fact. Now, I focus on more specific goals with a list I update daily. It helps me from losing track of what I want to accomplish. I do love hearing others' words and understanding what and why those words mean so much to them. I just don't work that way for some reason.

  13. I think I may steal your word for this year. I need to be more focused on my blog and trying to promote my shop and fill it with beaded beads.
