Every thought about trying a new medium in your bead or jewellery design? Something a bit different from the usual metal, glass, ceramic or other clays or maybe something that would cross over from another craft activity. Well take a look at some of these pieces that I found while looking for inspiration on Pinterest recently (click on the images for links credits)...there really are a lot of imaginative ways to feed this habit of ours.
Yes we've all come across paper beads like those in these earrings from Earthy Soul India...
Or an architectural pleated paper necklace design by Sarah Kelly...
What about putting your knitting skills to the test with these beads from Betty Hershberg (follow links for Craftsy tutorial)...
Lovely knitted bangles from Elinor Voytal...
Funky knitted bib necklace from Rhea Clements...
Or this cute die cut necklace...
These pretty flowers and other leather embellishments are available from H M Creative Supplies on Etsy...
You can even get creative with rubber like these simple but stylish earrings from Lonna Keller...
Or maybe recycle some old rubber gloves into earrings...
Or a bracelet like this one by Min-Ji Cho
So do any of these inspire you to dig a bit deeper in your craft room (or kitchen!) and come up with some new materials...? Or maybe you're already using some in which case please do tell...we'd love to see what you're up to.

I have made three necklaces and two pair of earrings using electrical resistors. The items you found are very creative.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. I am always amazed by how ingenious people can be - those rubber gloves!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome and inspiring post! Now I'm going to be walking around my house looking at everything in a different way! Hmmm...!!!
ReplyDeleteI love finding new uses for things that we take for granted. That is how I got my start. I really should get back to that. I love those earrings with the rubber gloves. That is so clever and graphic.Currently I am researching fonts. I love them. I am hosting an art exhibit at the gallery in town and my pieces will all be unified by different fonts and one singular letter. It will be really cool if I can make it happen! Best be off to start! Enjoy the day. Erin
