Pattern Review - Van Beads

Let me tell you a little about Jennifer of VanBeads.  I first "met" her when she was working with about.com.  I loved how she made every stitch seem so easy to learn and at that time I was in the earliest of learning so this was majorly important to me.  Then she became the Beading Daily Online editor and to tell you the truth that was a bit intimidating to me so I kinda faded in the background and just became a stalker lurker.  Then about 2 years ago I started on FB and there she was!  Awesome and sweet and oh so supportive.  Intimidation gone sort of.  Then I had the extreme pleasure of actually meeting her at Beadfest in Philly last year and I have to tell you it was so awesome.  I came around the corner and there she was sitting in the cafe area and the smile when she actually recognized me was awesome!  She also introduced me to another awesome beader named Dona!  This is all three of us at Beadfest!

So when she asked me to test her newest pattern Helena I jumped at the chance!!!  She and I were lucky recipients of the Beads for Blog Post beads from Preciosa so she knew I had the beads.  LOL
Here is her Helena Pattern.

I loved working with this pattern so much.  Her instructions and photo's are very detailed and so easy to follow.  You can really work it up in any color palette.  It can be dressy or worn with your favorite jeans (which you know is so me).  Here is my version.

I had to leave out the pearl embellishments as I ran out of the pearls but it is still so awesome and amazingly awesome to wear!  One of the reasons I wanted to share this with you is the PERFECT Ah Ha moment that happened while I was working on the neck chain portion of this pattern.  I have had this pendant done since before Beadfest but I couldn't come up with how to finish it.
LOOK at what happened!

I have to tell you I am in love with this necklace.  The pendant is one of Diana's of Suburban Girl Beads.  It is so amazing when a pattern by a fellow beader gives me that boost or just the thing I need to finish something.  Thank you so much Jen!!!!!!!!!!!

What about you has another pattern or artist given you that Ah-Ha moment?

  3. Hi Kristen,
Because of you I am now the owner of Jennifer's tutorial and one of the lucky first 20 to purchase it. I have not had the time to make it yet, but am so looking forward to doing my own version of her design. I love the rose pendant one you did it is gorgeous. My Ah-Ha moment was when RAW finely clicked, now I can not get enough of that stitch in all it's versions.
